Theme – Social Enterprise and a World in Transition

There is a great opportunity for Social Enterprise in the North East both to create new and innovative products and services and also create employment. We can learn a lot and be inspired by what is happening locally, nationally and internationally.

With that in mind we are organising the regional Social Enterprise Day Conference again this year. It’s on November 18th at the Baltic and the theme is Social Enterprise and a World in Transition.

It will be a day of Exploration and Inspiration – highly participative and co-creative.

We have invited Mondragon Coop as one of our key speakers. Mondragon is a cooperative. It’s the largest Basque business and the 7th largest business in Spain. It employs over 85,000 people with a turnover of almost 15 billion euros, and operates in Finance, Industry, Distribution and Knowledge, with its own university.

We’re confident that there is a lot we can learn from and be inspired by the Mondragon story. What stops us creating a similar enterprise in the North East?

We are also in conversation with others relevant presenters and organisations who can bring real value to our day. So stay tuned.

A key part of the day will be, not only hearing from inspiring speakers, but also taking the time to digest and share what we learn and how we might apply it, using the World Café format, and then harvesting our collective wisdom.

A World in Transition – Exhibition of Photographs and Art at Baltic

North east artists are invited to submit their paintings and drawings on the theme of “A World in Transition”. A selection will be made and displayed at Baltic in Gateshead as part of the 2010 social enterprise day event on November 18th.

Artists should liaise with their local community art studio, which will be making the selection in each area.

In conjunction with the exhibition and the social enterprise day event, there will be a seminar on the role of community art projects in mental health and wellbeing.
